When it comes to designs that tower above us, most of us are used to seeing skyscrapers soaring up to the heavens. They’re found in every major city around the world, and house numerous businesses and abodes. These are the five tallest architectural buildings found around the world.
Taipei 101 – Taiwan
While this once held the honour of being the tallest building in the world, it has fallen down the list, but it does, however, have the distinction of being the tallest green building in the world. The Taipei 101 is 508 metres tall and holds the LEED Platinum certification for its environmental design and for its energy efficiency.
Each night a different light is shone on it, in order to represent a different day of the week. Visitors can look out at Taipei from it, as the outdoor observatory is on the 89th floor – though wind warnings are in place due to its height.
Burj Khalifa, Dubai
Located within the United Arab Emirates, the Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest structure. It is 829.8 metres tall and goes up to 160 stories. It is open for visitors to go to the At the Top outdoor observation terrace, which is found on level 124.
The best time to visit is at sunset in order to see the city bathed in an incredible golden glow. The architects who designed it were Adrian Smith, George J. Efstathiou, and Marshall Strabala.
The Shard London Bridge, London
Within the bustling City of London, in Southwark, lies the Shard. It was the tallest building in the European Union from 2011 until February 2020 when the UK exited the European Union entirely. It is now the tallest building within the UK.
The Shard stands at 310 metres tall, has 73 stories and is home to numerous restaurants, dwellings, and an observation deck which is located on the 73rd floor. It was built by Italian architect Renzo Piano who noted that while even children can make new shapes, his goal was to make a shape that made sense, and he achieved that with The Shard.
Varso, Poland
Still under construction, Varso has become the tallest building within the European Union. It is designed by Foster and Partners and developed by HB Reavis and is designed to be a neomodern office complex. Plans for the skyscraper include a public observation deck with views of the city, as well as a restaurant and bar where you can relax and play Sri Lanka casino games online. The whole complex is going to also be connected to Warsaw Central station to make it more accessible for locals and tourists alike.
The One World Trade Center, USA
Built within Lower Manhattan, the One World Trade Center is the current tallest building within the United States. It stands at 541 metres tall – which is 1,776 feet and its height was chosen to commemorate the year of the signing of the USA Declaration of Independence. It was completed in 2014 and unveiled as the rebuilt World Trade Center complex, which is mainly used as an office space. It was designed by David Childs.
